About the Atlanta Dream…

The Atlanta Dream is a professional WNBA team based out of Atlanta, GA. Established in 2008, the Dream made it to the playoffs in 2023, for the first time since 2018.

Thier GOAl for Social Media….

Every good team needs a great strategy. Showing up on social media, allows The Atlanta Dream to promote games, merch, player updates & information. Being the youngest team in the WNBA means their goals for social media include two things: brand awareness & leads for ticket sales.

The Strategy

I developed a social strategy focused on growth and awareness by prioritizing short form video content across their main platforms which led to a growth rate of over 110% within the span of the regular season, taking the brand from 12th in following across the league to 3rd in 2023.

The Result

  • Grew Instagram account from 50K to over 200K in one season (3 months) Taking the dream from #12 in the league in social following on IG to #3 in the league. 

  • Created a social strategy that helped to gain over 29M impressions across all platforms 

  • Initiated Influencer relationships that helped the Dream brand to reach new audiences. 

    • In 2022, we spent the year learning to understand what content our audience cared about. In 2023, we created content buckets that laddered up to that - that content resonated and took off to drive reach and increase of followers. 

    • Without a dedicated influencer budget, we worked to get influencers and a variety of VIPs to games and amplified their experience on social. They in-turn shared their experiences on their channels. Every halftime performer also shared a hype video with their audiences before each performance which drove more reach for us.

  • Before the week of July 9th, 2023 (May 1 - July 8th) we had an average growth rate of 9.22% about 5,308+ followers and ranked #4 in growth rate. 

  • After July 9th we had a growth rate of 219.25% with over 138K followers gained.

  • Growth rate in 2022 was 14.59% for the season with 6,915 followers gained

    • Interaction rate was 0.9% for the 2023 season (2000+ accounts). Highest across the W was 2.7%, average was 1.7% in 2023

    • Interaction rate last year was 1.4% (750 followers engaged) the highest was 1.9% and the average was 1.3%
